Looking for more inspiration?

Below are some of the resources and websites that inspired the connection between French music and literacy instruction. Here you will find numerous lessons and ideas so you can feel more comfortable incorporating French music instruction into your weekly routines. 

Manie Musicale

Throughout March, sixteen chosen songs go head to head to determine the winning French song for that year. Stephanie Carbonneau and Michelle Fournier have created a rich community where teachers around the world collaborate and share resources inspired by competing songs. This is a  "must do" if you are wanting to celebrate French music and friendly competition in your class. 

Facebook Groups

Two of the most helpful facebook groups for lesson ideas and inspiration are Manie Musicale Teachers  as well as Musique Mercredi.  Both of these groups have allowed French teachers from around the globe to ask questions and share resources. If you are ever stuck on finding an appropriate song for an activity these are great places to start. 

Science de la lecture is a community dedicated to structured literacy and science of reading strategies for French teachers. 

SD23 Music in the Classroom

Last year I worked with Kristin Rode and Joanne Brunel to present at the SD23 summer institute. This presentation helps explain the benefits of integrating music in the classroom. Preparing this presentation started my learning journey of how I could better integrate literacy skills. 

International Dyslexia Association of Ontario

The IDA provides a wealth of resources for teaching structured literacy in a French Immersion context. The website also links to various documents and handouts that can be used in the classroom. 

Reading Rockets

Reading Rockets provides strategies that help teachers and care-givers on how best to support struggling readers. The website provides research-based resources and literacy strategies. 

Balanced Literacy Diet

While this page is not French specific, it does provide multiple lesson ideas for teaching the 5 pillars of structured literacy. You can search for lesson ideas or "recipes" based on your specific grade level.
