Introductions
My name is Jasmine Currie and I was born and raised in British Columbia on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Sylix/Okanagan Nation. I currently teach a grade 5 French Immersion class in Kelowna, British Columbia.
I completed my BA at the University of British Columbia-Okanagan campus with a major in Creative and Critical Studies in 2010. I then took a year off from my studies to work in the government program 'Odyssey'. I lived and worked in Rimouski, Quebec teaching English in an elementary school. It was an amazing opportunity to improve my French and to work in a school setting before starting my teaching career. After a year in Quebec, I returned to BC and completed my BEd with a French specialty at the UBC Vancouver campus in 2012. Since then, I have worked mainly in the Kelowna school district at an intermediate level. Over the past two years, I have worked on completing my Professional Masters of Education through Queen's University.

The song that started it all.

Growing up, I always loved music and have participated in various school bands as well as community bands. I can still recall my high school French teacher introducing our class to modern French music for the first time (merci Mme Huva). Who knew that French speakers didn't just listen to Edith Piaf!? I was instantly hooked and was practicing the words so I could sing along. I then started my search for other French bands so I could frantically add them to my CD case! From then on I have loved discovering new bands for myself and sharing my favourite finds with my class. Being able to pass on a love for French music to my students has been a highlight of teaching a second language.
